Elevation 5003 Distillery

Fort Collins, Colorado is considered by many as the capitol of craft beermaking, distilleries, and brewhouses. And while it is the dream of many to travel to the Front Range with the hopes of opening up their own brewery and making it big, the reality of the situation is that there is a great deal of difficult competition that washes all but a few out. For Elevation 5003 Distillery founder, Loren Matthews, her journey to becoming the head of a major distillery in Fort Collins was fraught with years of working in the trenches herself, learning the craft and biding her time.

Loren Matthews grew up in Florida as a family of five. Went it came time to make a professional living for herself, she decided to pursue a degree in Biology in the state of Georgia. It wasn’t long after graduating college that Loren pursued a job in the brewing industry. She would go on to earn a Masters degree and begin dabbling in the craft of home distilling. The process was fascinating to her and she continued to fall in love with the craft. After working in the brewing industry for 15 years, it was on one fateful night around a firepit where Loren and some of her friends starting discussing what they envisioned their futures to hold. After a great deal of encouragement and support from her friends and family, Loren decided to officially open up Elevation 5003 Distillery.

Elevation 5003 Distillery is regarded as an incredible grain-to-bottle distillery with a focus on innovative, hand-crafted distilled spirits. At the distillery, they mash, lauter, ferment, distill, filter, and bottle all of their spirits while focusing on environmentally conscious processes. Because founder Loren Matthews has a passion for education (as well as distilled spirits), she has constructed Elevation 5003 Distillery’s production area in full view from their tasting room. By doing this, customers are able to learn more about the distillation process and educate themselves more on what exactly a distillery is.
